EDITORIAL GUIDELINES

WRITTEN MATERIAL:

RMR is looking for positive, human interest stories that appeal to an audience of horsepeople, ranchers, seniors, and folks who live in the West. Pieces may include profiles of unusual people or animals, history, humor, anecdotes, coverage of regional events and new products. We occasionally excerpt books by regional authors. We aren't looking for many "how to" or training articles, and are not currently looking at any fiction. We sometimes run cowboy poetry, and we always need clean jokes and short humorous pieces with a western theme.

LENGTH:

Feature articles generally run between 500-2,000 words in length. Fillers should run about 100-500 words. Cowboy poetry should be no more than 4-5 stanzas.

FORMAT:

Please submit articles typed and double-spaced on 8-1/2 x 11 paper.

RIGHTS:

RMR buys first serial rights, one-time rights, as well as some reprint rights, if material has NOT been published in a competing publication in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, or Utah.

PHOTOS:

We need photos of Western scenes and people. Photos accompanying articles may be either black-and-white or color (as long as the contrasts are good). We also need humorous and action shots from various events in the northern Rockies. Send only photos (no slides, contact sheets or negatives).

PAYMENT:

RMR pays on publication. Written material pays approximately $30 per 1,000 words. Photos pay $5.00 per photo.

BE SURE TO ENCLOSE A SELF-ADDRESSED, STAMPED ENVELOPE OR YOUR SUBMISSION CANNOT BE RETURNED.
