The 11th
Annual Montana Breeders Group Horse
Sale
was held August 31, 2008, at Montana
Expo Park
in Great Falls, MT.
Over 600 people crowded in to watch the sale which was sponsored by the North Country Stock Horse Assn, and managed by
Montana
Breeders Group, LLC. There were over 250 bidders hailing from ID, MN,
MT, ND, UT, VA, WA, WY, and Alberta
and
Saskatchewan.
The auctioneer was Dan Skeels from
Alberta, Canada, and the pedigree man was Garth Isbell of Cardwell, MT.
Guests
and consignors were treated to a free BBQ beef lunch before the sale.
The high-selling horse was Enough Dynamite, a 1994 AQHA bay
broodmare, was sired by Doc O Dynamite and out of a Son O Sugar
daughter. Consigned by Laurie and
Ala
n Redfield, and co-owners Duey and Sarah Nollmeyer of the Davis
Creek Ranch at Livingston and Wilsall, MT, the mare was in foal to Jim Gelhaus’ black reining stallion, Hercs
Midnite Roost, a NRHA winner of over $50,000. She sold to Teri Hager of
Fairfield, MT, for $7,000, who, as buyer of the high-selling horse received a
monogrammed MBG blanket and a $100 gas certificate.
The second high-selling horse was Dodger Tracks, a 2004 bay AQHA
gelding sired by Starlit Dodger by Paddys Irish Whiskey, and out of a
Hollywood
Grullo Boy daughter. Consigned by Dennis and Erica Voss of the Horse
Butte
Ranch, Two Dot, MT, and trained by Thad Hereim of
White Sulphur Springs,
MT, this gelding was purchased by Shawn Christensen of Hot Springs, MT, for $6,400.
The high-selling yearling male was another
Davis
Creek Ranch consignment,
Cal
Bar
Cat, a 2007 sorrel AQHA stallion sired by WR This Cats Smart by High
Brow Cat, and out of Cal Bar Peppy by Peppy San Badger. He sold to Andrea Miller of
Philipsburg
,
MT, for $6,000, and she received an MBG monogrammed blanket.
Another sale highlight was the Prairie Breeze Quarter Horses
consignment, First Down Profit, who took high-selling weanling honors.
This 2008 AQHA black colt was sired by Profit Increase by First Down
Dash, and out of a Pretty Classy Zip daughter. He was purchased by phone
bidder Dave Sharp of
Bonn
yville
,
Alberta
, for $3,400.
The top ten horses averaged $5,020; 13 broke horses averaged
$3,454; 16 weanling fillies averaged $2,419; 28 weanling colts averaged
$1,570; 13 yearling fillies averaged $1,746; 22 yearling studs or
geldings averaged $1,566; and the overall average on 96 head was $2,085.
