Clinton Anderson Colt Starting Demo at 2013 NRHA Futurity

The National Reining Horse Association and Downunder Horsemanship are excited to announce that Clinton Anderson will present his Colt Starting Demonstration at the 2013 NRHA Futurity & Adequan North American Affiliate Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla. Clinton will be sharing his colt starting technique in a demo that will showcase groundwork exercises to prepare the young horse for a safe first ride. Once in the saddle, Clinton will detail the steps he takes to allowing the horse to get comfortable with a rider on his back and the beginning stages of steering and body control.

The demonstration will be on Saturday, December 7 at 8 a.m. in Arena 6. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. and tickets will be available to purchase online in advance or at the door.

For fans wishing to sit close to the action, NRHA will offer a limited number of arena-floor bleacher seats for $30. Fans in these "up-close seats" will have the advantage of getting in line first for Clinton's autograph signing following the demonstration.

General Admission tickets will be $20. With the purchase of any ticket, spectators will be granted entrance into the NRHA Futurity Open Finals later that day at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Coliseum.

When asked to present his colt starting method, Clinton didn't hesitate to partner with the NRHA. "I've always loved the challenge of training a horse and the thrill of competing. Breeding, raising, training and competing on reiners has been a longtime passion of mine," he explains. "When I was contacted by the NRHA to share my knowledge of starting colts, I was honored and happy to help a sport that has meant a lot to me throughout my career with horses."

During the demo, Clinton Anderson will give away a Colt Starting Kit ($599 retail value) to one lucky audience member. The kit is filled with 11 DVDs and 26 Arena Mates. In the Colt Starting Series he covers every aspect of starting a young horse from catching a wild horse to safely walking, trotting and cantering on a loose rein both in the arena and on the trail. The series is filled with countless success tips, safety precautions and troubleshooting advice. There will be other giveaways during the demo to look forward to as well.

It's the most elite reining event in the world with more than 3,000 entries competing for nearly $2 million in cash and prizes. More than 1,300 horses and 127,000 visitors come from nearly 20 countries to compete and watch the excitement unfold. During its 10-day run, the show contributes more than $67 million to the overall Oklahoma City economy. Go to for more information or to purchase tickets.
