Trail Projects planned near Sula, Montana

Hamilton, MT. Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen (BBCH) and the Bitterroot National Forest are partnering on several projects to help clean and maintain trails and sites on the Sula Ranger District.  The projects are scheduled to begin this Saturday, July 27th and run through Monday, July 29th

The group will do general trail maintenance including clearing blow down, cleaning water bars and ditches and general trail repairs on Buck Creek Trail #198 between the East Fork Trail and the Continental Divide.  Volunteers will also clear and make repairs to Johnson Peak Trail #435 from the McCart Lookout to the Continental Divide.  The public should be on alert and watch out for volunteer work crews and stock on these trails.

The group will also be working on numerous improvement projects around the East Fork Guard Station including repairing corrals and fences, cleaning out barns, and building and installing a new pump cover.

For more information, contact project leader Tim Peterson at (406) 381-2054 or visit www.bchmt.org/bitterroot.

BBCH was established more than 30 years ago and was one of the first chapters in the nation.  Their goal is to ensure that stock users can continue to access backcountry and wilderness trails.  The club annually contributes over 600 personal hours and 425 stock hours on projects, most on the National Forest, that create significant benefits for all trail users and for the natural resources.
