Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Selects 2012 Candid

Photography Intern for IHSA National Championships

Fairfield, CT—March 9, 2012—The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) is pleased to announce that Jessi Thorne, of Roselle, IL, a freshman marketing major who rides for the hunter seat team of Miami University (Ohio) in IHSA Zone 6 Region 2, has been selected for the 2012 Candid Photography Internship at the IHSA National Championships, May 3-6, at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh, NC.

“The committee was unanimous in selecting her,” said Kelly Francfort, chair of the IHSA Public Relations Committee and IHSA coach at Rutgers University (NJ).  “Her resume of photography experience was impressive.  The pictures that she submitted spoke to the committee and truly captured the sentiment of the IHSA.”

Thorne has been photographing horse shows, weddings, and families for five years, serving in an official capacity at smaller horse trials and working alongside professionals at larger, rated hunter/jumper shows at Lamplight Equestrian Center near Chicago .  She is shooting for James Leslie Parker and The Book this summer on the East Coast circuit.

“My work, with weddings and shows especially, has given me experience capturing candid moments that only happen once,” said Thorne. At Miami , she works with university photographers covering events from sports to famous speakers, and with its marketing department, providing images for advertising and marketing.

“I would love to go to Nationals with my team and this is the perfect opportunity. This experience combines my interests in photography and horses, and would help me figure out if this is what I want to do as my career. It’s an excellent opportunity to work for a respected organization and can only help further my learning as a photographer.”

Thorne will work with the IHSA Public Relations Committee and its media liaison, L.A. Pomeroy, to capture candid and memorable moments surrounding the 39th edition of the IHSA National Championships, May 3-6, at the Hunt Horse Complex on the NC Fairgrounds in Raleigh , NC , to share with IHSA at Facebook and www.ihsainc.com.

About the IHSA

The IHSA mission is to promote competition for riders of all skill levels, who compete individually and as teams at regional and national levels.  IHSA is based on the principle that any college student should be able to participate in horse shows regardless of his or her financial status or riding level.
