Horse Development Authority 2010 Summit Topics CHDA Announces Topics for 2010 Horsemen’s SummitSurvey results collected earlier this year by the CHDA identified key issues of concern to Colorado’s horse industry leaders. With these results in mind, the Colorado Horse Development Authority will present a double program at the 2010 Horsemen’s Summit, to be held January 11 at 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Central in Denver.
Dennis Dailey, Executive Director of Issues and Policy of the Back Country Horsemen of America, will present a talk and slide show on “Trail Access and Recreation with Horses.” With 15,000 members nationwide, BCHA is the foremost advocate for trail users on all public lands.
Recreational independent and outfitted trail users account for 30% of Colorado’s equestrian revenue generation, which only makes sense, given the enormous portion of the state under federal land management. Mr. Dailey will cover such relevant topics as the proposed Heritage/Right to Ride legislation, the USFS trails classification system, collaborations with other organizations, and the state of trail access nationwide.
Following Mr. Dailey’s talk, Julie Chaney, chair of both the CHC Trails Committee and the Colorado Back Country Horsemen, will lead a discussion about the present status of trail issues within Colorado.
CHC President Christopher D. Whitney and CHC Legislative Chair Jill Montgomery, who also both serve on the board of the Colorado Unwanted Horse Alliance, will facilitate a discussion on the “Effects of Unwanted Horses in Colorado.”
There is no charge to attend the Summit, and all interested horsemen and women are welcome. Organization leaders are especially encouraged to participate. To reserve a seat, please contact the Colorado Horse Development Authority at (303) 292-4981 or email jessica@coloradohorsecouncil.com.
