Montana Draft Horse & Mule Association Fall Logging Days
Oct 2-4, Missoula, MT

YOU ARE INVITED to the 2009
MONTANA DRAFT HORSE & MULE ASSOCIATION
FALL LOGGING DAYS

The Board of the Montana Draft Horse and Mule Association cordially invites and encourages you to attend the Fall 2009 membership meeting the weekend of October 2-4 at the Missoula Equestrian Park in Missoula, Montana. A number of members had shown an interest in how to use their teams in the forest so in conjunction with our hosts the Bitterroot Draft Horse and Mule Club and members Dick and Alex Clemow, we will be circling our wagons in Western Montana . The Missoula Equestrian Park has graciously allowed us to use their facility at NO COST in exchange for a day (Friday October 2) of equine chores at the park.

RV parking and camping is permitted at the park with limited electrical hookups. Large stables with bedding and grass hay provided for your stock. We have arranged discount motel accommodations very near the park at discount rates for the weekend (list attached). We will have the clubs equipment there for the weekend along with other implements for you to hook up to.

The park is located in a quiet “rural” area southwest of the city center and there are several short destinations for drives on mostly quiet asphalt surfaced roads. Try your horses on a single lane wooden decked steel span bridge over the Bitterroot River or journey to the confluence of the Bitterroot and Clark Fork Rivers . Grocery stores and other city services close by. This is blessedly a NONFOOTBALL Grizzly weekend in Missoula .

Please look over the weekend schedule and MUST RSVP with the following information:

YOUR NAME, DATES YOU PLAN TO ARRIVE AND DEPART, NUMBER OF ADULTS IN YOUR PARTY, NUMBER OF HEAD YOU ARE BRINGING (STALLS REQUIRED), IF YOU REQUIRE RV ELECTRIC HOOKUP

Please reply to MDHMA Association Secretary Alex Clemow preferably by email: alextgrt@aol.com, or by fax to 406.728.8905, or by mail to 3140 Pattee Canyon Road Missoula , MT 59803 or, as a last resort by phone (with questions) at 406.728.2258.

Please respond at your earliest convenience NO LATER THAN SUNDAY SETEMBER 27 as we expect most if not all of the 40 stalls could be taken at this event. There is a $25 meal charge per adult for the weekend (children attend at no charge). We will ask that the members contribute as necessary for other incidental weekend costs incurred as they are so inclined.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Your stock, Forecarts, harrows or other pasture drags, boots and work gloves and maybe a clean shirt for dinner (for Sat. afternoon hands on logging demo), camping gear if not moteling, a smile and expectation of a great time. You are encouraged to bring your riding stock and take advantage of the excellent equestrian park facility. Also, we are planning at this gathering to run (at your election) the teamster events in a “Jackpot” format with a $10 entry fee per event. We will then split the pot after each event to the high place contestants. No winnings will be reported to the IRS. All events will be open for instructional/fun participation. Expect other prizes/awards. The new MDHMA shirts are now available for sale!!!!!

One travel suggestion from a local: If you are arriving from the north or east on Friday afternoon be aware that between 3:30PM and 6PM North Reserve Street is a moving parking lot at best!!! Consider traveling through the city center and south on Brooks Street to avoid what is usually a traffic mess. Watch for Trempers Shopping Center on Brooks and take a Right immediately past the center (referred to as Malfunction Junction) on SOUTH AVENUE and continue west through Reserve Street past Community Hospital to TOWER STREET and take a right to the Park.
