Adequan Select AQHA World
Championship Show Comes to RFD-TV
Stories
from the 2011 Adequan Select World Championship Show
will unfold during a special one-hour television program at 10 p.m.
EST/7:00 p.m. PST on October 6 on RFD-TV.
The Adequan Select World is the world’s largest, single-breed world
championship horse show open exclusively to amateur exhibitors age 50 and older.
This is the pinnacle for AQHA Select competitors around the world who must
qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in
each of the 41 classes representing halter, English and western disciplines. The
1,290 entries at this year’s event represented competitors from 42 of the
United States
,
Canada
,
Germany
, and – for the first time –
Argentina
. The show was August 28 - September 3 at the
Amarillo
National
Center
in
Amarillo
,
Texas
.
The
Select division focuses on amateurs, not professionals. This year’s oldest
competitor was an 84-year-old woman from
Oklahoma
who showed in the 3-year-old mares halter class. The oldest horse, Ferns Ruby,
25, competed in jumping.
The ninth annual event offered more than $520,000 in prize money and included
855 western class entries, 125 English class entries and 310 halter class
entries. World champions received a prize package that included a
custom-designed gold trophy, Montana Silversmiths buckle, specially designed
logoed jacket sponsored by Cripple Creek Outerwear, a neck wreath, rosette with
medallion, a WeatherBeeta product, a Tex Tan product and 100 pounds of Nutrena
feed.
New for 2011, the Intermediate awards
program, which recognized exhibitors who have never placed in the top 10 at an
American Quarter Horse Association world show in the particular class in which
they were competing. Intermediate classes ran as classes within classes, not
separately.
Intermediate exhibitor status is based only on an exhibitor’s lifetime,
combined world show record, not on the number of points he/she has accumulated.
An exhibitor did not have to make it to the finals of his/her class to be
considered for an Intermediate award. There are no entry fees or nomination
procedures for an exhibitor to be considered for an Intermediate award.
Intermediate accomplishments will appear on the exhibitor’s and horse’s AQHA
official record.
The Intermediate exhibitor recognition package included an 8-inch clear globe
for first place and 6-inch globes for the second and third places. Each
Intermediate champion also received a specially-designed patch that can be
placed on a qualifiers jacket that can be purchased by the exhibitor. The top
three Intermediate exhibitors had the option to purchase a championship buckle.
