ApHC News - New Appaloosa Club formed

July 14, 2009 –

The oil-rich, Gulf countries of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman comprise the geographical region covered by the newly formed Dubai / GCC Appaloosa Horse Association. Dubai, one of seven states, or Emirates, in the United Arab Emirates, will be the headquarters for the DGCCAHA and will serve as a point of contact for those interested in learning more about the Appaloosa breed.

The goal of the DGCCAHA is to promote the versatility of the Appaloosa breed and to educate and assist the region in the acquisition of Appaloosa horses.

Carolyn Munson, Chairman of the Dubai / GCC Appaloosa Horse Association, and a resident of Dubai for more than 10 years, is committed to building the halter and pleasure horse industry in the Gulf countries.

“I am certain that the unique color and the disposition of the Appaloosa will prove attractive to the Arab market,” Munson said. “We are already fielding inquiries from the U.A.E. and a contingency from Saudi Arabia that view the appaloosa horse as a novelty for now, but an industry will develop over time. It’s our goal to advance opportunities for breeders and trainers in America by exporting quality and color to this untapped marketplace.”

There is ancient history of horsemanship in the Gulf region. Dubai hosts the Dubai World Cup in March, known as the “World’s Richest Horse Race” with a 2009 purse of more than $6 million. There are numerous shows, jumping, endurance and racing events annually that attract avid equestrians from all over the world.

A web site for the association is in development and there are plans to participate in regional equestrian exhibitions in 2010.

To learn more about the DGCCAHA, please contact Carolyn Munson at (941) 322-6222 or via e-mail at mail@dgccaha.com. In the Gulf Region (Dubai), please contact Roxanne Nilay, DGCCAHA Secretary, at +97150 9540080.
