Rocky Mountain Breeders Production Sale Weekend Competitions Results

DEER LODGE, MONTANA , the annual Production, Performance, and Ranch Horse sale was held August 22, 2009, in Deer Lodge, Montana , at the Powell County Fairgrounds.  During the weekend the activities included a horse sale, ranch horse competitions, horse show classes, and a Round Pen Shoot Out.

The Rocky Mountain Breeders Association (RMBA) is a non-profit organization comprised of breeders and horse enthusiasts working for the advancement of equine breeding programs and businesses and the promotion of Appaloosas, Quarter Horses, and Paints.  The association hosts many different activities throughout the year and also publishes an Annual Membership Directory with a complete set of membership names, information on the RMBA, and advertising opportunities for any and all businesses.

ROUND PEN SHOOT OUT

This year’s Shoot-Out, we tipped our hat “goodbye” to top trainer Wade Fisher of Fisher Equine in Twin Bridges, Montana, and welcomed local Deer Lodge, Montana, cowboy Jim Davis as the 2009 Top Trainer.  Jim has started colts for using on the ranch and for outside clients.  With his experience using ranch horses, he understands just what a horse needs to be able to do during its saddle horse career.

We must extend a huge “Thank You” and also a “good job” to the trainers that round out the Round Pen Shoot-Out.  Wade Fisher, exiting 2008 Champion Top Trainer and Charlie Hanson, 2009 challenger from Arlee , Montana .  Thank you gentlemen, we couldn’t have a great Shoot-Out contest without each of you.

A big “Thank You” also must go out to Lisa Joachim of Goldenrose Foundation Quarter Horses of Ronan, Montana.  Lisa supplied six nice young Quarter Horse fillies for the Shoot-Out.  Each trainer had an opportunity to select a filly from the group.  The fillies were then offered to the public during the horse sale.

RAFFLE COLT WINNER

The proud new winner of the handsome raffle colt was Paul Daniels from Ovando, Montana.  Paul won a good one!  The colt is a nice yearling gelding sired by Roys A Good Mate, an own son of top performance sire Smart Mate.  Donated by Fisher Equine of Twin Bridges, Montana, and out of a Beck Ranch mare, this colt is bred to be cowy and should take his proud new owners anywhere they want to go.

YEAR END HIGH POINT RANCH HORSE WINNERS

In its second year of high point races, the Ranch Horse Competitions continue to grow in popularity.  Our contestants are coming from a further range than ever before and we’ve continued to see the series expand to cover more locations and include more shows.  This season over 40 riders, some with multiple horses, hauled in to play at the Ranch Horse Competitions.  The payouts for the Ranch Horse Competitions paid out over $6,000 during the course of the competition season.

One of the highlights of the ranch horse competitions continue to be the reasonable entry fees that allow first time showmen, green horses, and those switching events to try their hand at something new.  With these events, riders make one run that encompasses three areas; trail, a reining pattern, and some basic cow work.  The level of classes that allow riders and horses of varying expertise to show in a class designed just for them is unique to the RMBA.

The competition series did not include the Plains, Montana, show this year.  That show was a stand-alone show, although many of the same faces went to participate.  Read on to see who the top two placings in each class were at the end of the series year.  The single horse/rider duo earning the highest composite score for the season was awarded a custom jacket during the Awards Banquet on September 26th.

A HUGE “Thank You” to all of the people who organized and hosted each show, as it takes a lot of planning to put on a show.  And a big “Thank You” to all the contestants as we couldn’t have a show without you!  Look forward to seeing you all next season!
