Refurbishing a Landmark

The north entrance of Deer Lodge, Montana is marked with a nine-foot-tall fiberglass statue of a Clydesdale draft horse made by Anheuser-Busch and donated by Thompson Distributing, of Butte , a longtime Draft Horse Expo Sponsor.

Betty Hadley, a member of the Expo’s organizing committee, was instrumental in getting “Clyde” donated several years ago, and now is helping to get the horse repainted with a fundraising raffle with winners drawn during this year’s Expo.

Once repainted, Clyde should look just like his twin at Anheuser Busch brewery in New Hampshire .

“Clyde is so big and beautiful, and he needs to be repainted professionally – just like a car would be,” says Betty.

Prizes include a handmade Western-designed quilt, leather-covered canteen with a silhouette of Clyde carved into it and a weekend for two at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.

Tickets are $2 or six for $10. Call Betty at 406-846-2507 to purchase.
