Rollie
Joe Stone come a’drivin’ by on his way to go git some gas, said he had to show me the miracle that had recently come to pass. If I had’nt a’seen it, I’d be doubtin’ it still. It was Rollie’s little black-mouth cur – All bathed ‘n groomed ‘n polished ‘n brushed on a leash just as purty as her. Ol’ Rollie sez, “Lady – (that ‘s her name) Show these folks how you kin heel.” She pranced right along, tight by his side, Just as slick as banana peel. Then Rollie croons, “Lady – (sweet as you
please) Let’s show ‘em now how you kin beg.” And that little mutt, all perky an’
quick. Sat up beggin’ by
Rollie’s left leg. Well, that was so cute that I almost cried, and I clapped and said, “I’ll be darned.” Rollie, grinned ‘n laughed ‘n, all smug, sez, “That ain’t all little Lady’s larned.” “Well, golly,” I said, amazed ‘n impressed, “How’d ya teach her so much so fast? I agree it’s a show that dazzles the mind. She’s sure got my Aussie surpassed.” “ “My trainin’ secrets cain’t be beat: give her lots of time, give her lots of love, an’ then slip her a liver treat.”
