Your publication is lovely, but it was with great sadness I forced myself to read your Staff Writer, Dorinda Troutman’s account about Baling Twine and the fatal consequences to Osprey (RMR May 2011).
Largely due to Othello’s Sandhill Crane Festival, I have a greater
appreciation of birds in general and in this area. is there anything that can be
done to prevent the inadvertent killing of the osprey by the use of the baling
twine? That photograph taken by Jana Thompdon of the dangling Osprey —
apparently starved to death — is too tragic… so needless. Seeing the
entwisted twine, it is evident, too, that we Human Beings are The Culprit in
that fowl’s slow awful death and that we must intervene to keep future Osprey
from meeting The same inhumane (tho’ created by humans), Horrible Fate.
Human Beings can certainly cause fellow creatures much needless misery
and death. The plastic used to keep six -packs of canned soda or beer together
needs also to be cut up and safely disposed of as it can catch fish and wreak
havoc. Why isn’t anti-freeze made so it isn’t sweet, prone to be injested by
our four-legged friends? I could go on.
Thank you for your enlightening publication. Sincerely, Janet Miya, a fellow horse lover, Copyright 2011 Rocky Mountain Rider. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
