Trafalgar Square Books has recently published Lorenzo—The Flying
Frenchman by Luisina Dessagne. People across the globe have seen photos and
footage of the awe-inspiring horse trainer and stunt rider Roman riding his
teams of four, six and eight gray horses along beaches, through waves, and over
jumps.
The book follows Lorenzo through his childhood
as he grew up in a horse-crazy family in
France
’s renowed Carmargue region to his international status as a performer. The
book includes the story of Lorenzo’s remarkable Lusitano mares, how he trains
them in liberty dressage, and how he travels with them.
Every mare reacts perfectly when her name is
called, meaning that she has to go either faster or more slowly. “After a
certain time they are so well adapted to one another,” says Lorenzo, “that
the turn becomes an almost automatic procedure because one mare knows she has to
go faster when I give the other the command to slow down. I don’t need to tell
each individual horse what they have to do. It is enough to give one of the
horses a command, then the others work things out to a certain extent amongst
themselves.”
The book is 144 pages, contains 173 color photos, and is $34.95. To
