February
2012 issue
The 2012
Utah
Horse Expo will be held March
9–11, 2012, at the
Salt
Lake
County
Equestrian
Park
Event
Center
in
South Jordan
, UT. This exciting family event will offer a Stallion Preview, a Breed
Showcase, educational seminars, equine demonstrations, and a large trade show.
A highlight of the weekend is the 4th Annual
Utah
Trainers Challenge, with a $5,000
cash prize and $7,500 in awards. Four trainers were selected in a competition
held January 14, each having received an untrained horse to work with. The
trainers have 60 days before the Expo to teach their horses a range of skills
– from basic ground manners to Western performance events such as reining, and
ranch and cattle work.
The trainers will be asked to ride their horses at the Expo, and will be
judged not only by three independent judges, but by Expo visitors, who will vote
on which horse they perceive as the best trained.
Other weekend highlights include NFR Champions and Miss Rodeo
Utah
signing autographs, farrier clinics, veterinarian lectures, demonstrations by
local youth vaulting teams; driving demonstrations; Friesians and Gypsy Vanner
horses; draft horses in harness; costumed Arabian riders; costumed Renaissance
riders; and roping and cowdog demonstrations.
Proceeds from the event benefit 4-H, Utah High School Rodeo and Miss
Rodeo
Utah
. For more information about the Utah Horse Expo, call 801-627-6471,
