The
Rocky
Mountain
Breeders’ Assn. (RMBA) Production, Performance and Ranch Horse Sale
was held August 22, 2009, in Deer Lodge, MT, at the fairgrounds.
Activities over the entire weekend also included ranch horse
competitions, horse show classes, and a Round Pen Shoot-Out.
The RMBA is a non-profit organization founded in 1971, and its
membership is comprised of 70 ranches raising Quarter Horses, Paints and
Appaloosas. The sale featured more saddle horses, aged two years and up,
than in previous years, and fewer broodmares and young stock.
The high-selling horse was Gunsmoke Rum, a 2005 brown AQHA gelding
consigned by Ron and Donna Burns, Burns Ranch Quarter Horses of White
Sulphur Springs, MT. Sired by Doc McKay, a two-time NFR calf-roping
qualifier and son of Rum Squall by Peppy San Badger, and out of an
Eagle’s Gunsmoke daughter, he had plenty of ranch experience —
moving cows, roping, crossing water, going through timber. He was
purchased by Carl Seehawer of
Roseburg
,
OR
, for $5,000.
