Farms & Jeff Gerhart
Trainer Jeff
Gerhart of JSG Farms in
Stevensville
,
MT
, says that “no matter what breed of horse you have or whether you
ride Western, hunter or saddleseat, it is important that your horse be
forward (with purpose and commitment), supple, sounded and cadenced.
“These things can only happen and will keep your horse happy if it has
a definite four-beat walk, two-beat jog or trot, and a three-beat lope
or canter.”
Jeff is pleased to work with owners to find out what a horse is
physically and mentally capable of doing. “If you have a specific job
in mind,” he says, “make sure you obtain a horse that is currently
doing and enjoying that job.” He stresses the welfare, safety and
overall happiness of both horse and rider.
He specializes in training for Flat Hunter, Saddleseat, Western and
Driving, and has worked with many breeds of horses including Morgans,
Arabians, Paints and Quarter Horses.
Jeff has been in the business for 23 years, and is a graduate of Cal
Poly–Pomona and the Kellogg Arabian Horse Unit with two B.S. degrees
and an Equine Science minor. He successfully showed his Arabian stallion
Popovich DSA (pictured) to a Scottsdale Top Ten in Open Hunter Pleasure
(7th in 38).
Jeff is happy to “talk horses” with anyone, and has an extensive
resume and list of references for prospective clients.
