“I’ve never missed a performance,” says Collette Maxwell, a
30-year veteran of the Bitterroot
Mountettes, a ladies drill team that has consistently won in drill team
competitions across the West. Her words emphasize the fact that first

Maxwell says that the team began in 1966. It was initially
encouraged by the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, who wanted

Maxwell says, “Currently, we have twelve active members,
including one 15-year-old with her parent. We could use twenty.
“It’s a big commitment,” she explains. “Beginning on

Maxwell says that she had ridden twelve to fourteen horses over

situations.
The Mountettes hold fundraisers throughout the year and have
sponsors to defray travel, costume and other expenses.
